This Floating Nightstand from Hay Is Popping Up in All Kinds of Home Tours

The floating wall shelf often goes one of two ways: simple and strong or cutesy and very much not durable. But, considering its status as a small home solution, we’re always on the lookout for products that combine the best of both worlds.

Recently, one design from the Danish darling Hay has stood out as a go-to for designers of tiny and large rooms alike. The Korpus shelf, which comes in three different widths, is a slim space-saver made of lightweight, powder-coated aluminum with a high-gloss finish. It has shown up again and again in personality-filled home tours, like this Austin new build by designer Taylor Clouse and this Santa Ynez ranch that has a slide (!) inside.

Created by Norwegian designer Andreas Bergsaker, the Korpus was initially meant to be crafted from a single sheet of metal and then hammered to shape by hand. The scaled-to-market version from Hay takes the organic shape and adds a chic, of-the-moment color selection—sea, brick red, cream, midnight blue, and pink—and concealed hooks that make it useful beyond the bedroom. It can be a key perch and jacket hanger in the hallway, a spot for tea towels and seasonings in the kitchen, or a landing pad for hand towels and lotion next to the bathroom sink. It can also take up to 22 pounds of weight, which is more than many options on the market.
