Even if you’re most familiar with the word as a French wine region, burgundy evokes warmth and a certain sophistication—in other words, it’s a classic. The deep reddish brown has made a case for itself on runways lately, and the same goes for home decor. There’s more than ever to choose from in the color, from soulful paint colors and moody furniture to two-tone sconces and even chic showerheads. It’s reflective of the overall move toward darker, moodier interiors we’ve seen over the past year, and it’s just picking up steam.
In between popping up on walls, bed frames, and kitchen countertops in home tours, the hue has made a few cameos in our Home Front newsletter. Benjamin Moore and Behr have put their bets on various shades, and numerous designers envision the color having a banner year on kitchen cabinets. “We are entering a time when people are looking for warm colors, soothing and cozy,” designer Young Huh told us. Designer Alykhan Veliji agrees: “I love the idea of a dark aubergine color for cabinets. It’s a moody choice that has so much depth.”
Burgundy can be so much more than paint, though. We’re seeing it on slick side tables, in rug collections from Beni and Armadillo, and on Baina towels, too. Here’s everything we’re loving most right now.
