Now This Is Modern Farmhouse

From dreamy decor to top-notch amenities, Domino’s “Wish You Were Here” series is your first-class ticket to the most design-driven getaways around the world. Whether you’re looking to steal away for a few days or just steal a few ideas for back home (we encourage both, for the record), check out where we’re checking in.

Any seasoned New Yorker knows that Hudson Valley hotels almost always look good on Instagram—but IRL, it can be a bit of a gamble. Those prefab wood cottages seemingly nestled in the woods? They’re actually along a busy highway. And that charming roadside motel–turned–boutique hotel? Well, the walls are still motel thin. The 65 wood-and-steel–beam cabins at the Wildflower Farms, Auberge Hotel Collection, however, live up to the feed.

The mountainside property, just 1.5 hours north of Manhattan—a trip made even sweeter when Audi lends you a new electric Q8 for the journey—really is a working farm. At the restaurant, Clay, you’ll dig into dishes made from vegetables plucked straight from the garden, and you can even grab eggs from the chicken coop for your breakfast.

The interiors, the work of Brooklyn design firm Ward and Gray, give “rustic” as expected, but rather than splintery wood walls and cursive-lettered signs, there are luxurious velvet sofas and limewashed walls. In other words, a fresh take on the modern farmhouse look is here, and it’s chic as hell.

The design team, inspired by the surrounding nature’s palette, filled each stand-alone cabin with window seat cushions in the exact burnt orange of a fall leaf and geometric quilts reminiscent of summer’s green trees and blue skies. Vintage chairs upholstered in nubby bouclé face floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a direct view of the space’s source material: a meadow of goldenrods, marigolds, and Indian paintbrush that give the property its name.

The unfussy, Americana-ish vibe continues into common areas, like the great porch, an open-air lobby outfitted with cozy sofas upholstered in more velvet (yes, velvet is officially a part of modern farmhouse) and stools that circle a large firepit. At Clay, giant vintage tapestries hang above the fireplace.

And then there are the intangibles, like the ritual hand-washing ceremony you’ll partake in when you arrive, and the wind-down treats (one night it was a lavender salve; another it was a card with a breathing ritual) left on your nightstand each night. As with the rest of the property, you’ll be eager to post these details on social media, too, but they’ll never live up to actually being there.
