The formal dining room in Dan Pelosi’s Upstate, New York, home looks grand at first glance: The ceilings are 11 feet high, the wood floors are painted with a harlequin pattern, and a giant paper lantern holds court overhead. But what if we told you that the 12 chairs gathered around his extra-long dining table are from IKEA? No catch. No hacks. They’re just off-the-shelf Bergmund chairs.
“I’m a high-low person. I’m happy to throw IKEA chairs against a really beautiful dining table,” our Spring 2025 cover star told us.
In case you missed it, we’ve been loving all things striped lately, from curtains to Drew Barrymore’s latest lounge chair for Walmart, and Pelosi’s seats are no different. There are a few Bergmund styles, ranging from bar stools with exposed legs and partially covered seats, but this fully slipcovered version is the only one available in the black-and-white pattern (it also comes in white).
According to IKEA, the angle between the Bergmund seat and its backrest is optimally designed for sitting comfortably (a win for you and guests). You also have your choice of a black, oak, or white finish on the solid wood legs. The real kicker, though: One chair is only $135. And a full set of four plus a dining table will only run you $989 total.
Customers rave in the review section that the 100-percent cotton covers are removable and machine-washable, a host’s dream. It’s certainly a bonus for Pelosi, given his famous vodka “sawce” is a dinner party staple.
