Somehow, it’s November—am I really about to pull out my winter jacket?!—but let’s rewind to our dreamy July cover story starring manifestation expert and To Be Magnetic founder Lacy Phillips and her 1930s hunting cabin. The sleeper hit in our tour of the Topanga Canyon property was definitely the tented guest “room” complete with wood-framed windows and an outdoor shower. Imagine waking up there! Turns out, an at-home glamping experience is kind of Phillips’s specialty. Here, she gives us the rundown on her latest creation. —Lindsey Mather, digital director

What I’m loving right now: Dressed-up tents for a different kind of guest experience. Our properties are rural and in some of the most beautiful places in California: Topanga, Mendocino, and Yosemite. One of our staples at each house is a dressed-up custom tent, so visitors get to really be with the elements and nature. We just designed this one (above).
How I’d bring the look home:
- At our Topanga home, we completely customized the tent (above) and included a Big Sur–inspired outdoor bathroom in the back, complete with a vintage claw-foot tub, toilet, and sink. It might be our friends’ and family’s favorite spot to stay, as they can hear the coyotes, crickets, and owls at night. And they have the best vantage point on our property; they can watch the marine layer pour into the canyon amid the Santa Monica mountains.
- A tent could also make an epic home office or a wonderful playroom for kids that is detached from the main house…
