Halsey Preserved This Design Feature in Her 1920s L.A. Home

Los Angeles is notorious for its very expensive real estate. But while down payments of “made it” mansions may be hard to come by, window shopping is not. From celebrity-hosted glimpses into their private spaces, to estate sales in coveted zip codes, to even good ol’ fashioned star tours (best of luck seeing behind hedges!), there are plenty of ways to peruse top-tier properties in this sunny city. And perhaps the most convenient option is by simply scrolling through listings from home—that’s possible without a plane ticket, too.

Actress and singer Halsey recently put her Los Feliz hideaway on the market, and it’s full of historic charm. Built in 1928, the nearly 6,000-square-foot address boasts five bedrooms and six bathrooms, with the starlet must-haves of a movie theater and pool to boot. And while anyone with the funds is sure to appreciate the hacienda-style architecture upon moving in, everyone who’s window shopping is sure to spot one particular “if only” detail to keep in mind for their dream home: colorful tilework.

The glazed tiles in bright shades, like the mint-and-white combination in one bathroom and yellow-meets-teal in another, showcase combinations and craftsmanship of a bygone era. It was once customary of midcentury homes throughout Los Angeles to have jewel box bathrooms like these, which were tucked inside apartments and estates alike, but they have long since become a rare feature. Getting a peak at Halsey’s home and this beautiful tilework is a treat that could be used as inspiration for a future project of your own. After all, even if they don’t make bathrooms quite like these anymore, everything old is eventually new again. Get the look with one of the options below.
